Last week I covered a story on a cheap and simple way to prevent pedestrian accidents in the community of Aiea. The idea is not new to the island, but raises the question if this simple act of waving a flag while crossing the street will help to decrease the amount of traffic accidents involving pedestrians on the island. Many roads on the mainland feature the same flag as a way to draw more attention to drivers. Currently there are 6 flags out at the Kaahele street crosswalk featured in this story, with another 20 flags being stored by a volunteer who lives nearby in case some of the flags are stolen. It will be interesting to see how how many flags are left when the pilot project ends in December. Its like that saying…”Stay tuned for more details”….
